You can find full details about this opportunity below.

Information for students
Have you just finished your GCSEs? Not sure what to do next? If you’re interested in a career as an engineer, enjoy working outdoors and want to shape the way electricity makes its way to houses and businesses across the UK, our apprenticeship programme is perfect for you.

Our client’s distribution network is the largest in the UK and provides electricity to more than eight million customers across London, the east of England and the south-east.

As an apprentice, you’ll get to work on projects, gain experience in your chosen craft and earn a wage. You’ll also work towards valuable professional qualifications, such as a Certificate in Electrical Power Engineering, at the same time. You’ll start off by earning £14,177 a year as well as an annual bonus. By the end of the three years, you’ll be a fully trained, qualified and competent ‘craft’ person and your salary will increase.

The apprenticeship follows a Trailblazer Apprenticeship Framework and is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), one of the largest professional engineering institutions in the world, and endorsed by Energy & Utility Skills.

What crafts can you apply to?
There are three different crafts that you can choose from:

  • cable jointing – your job will involve maintaining, restoring and carrying out repairs on low-voltage and high-voltage cable networks
  • overhead lines – your job will involve carrying out maintenance, reinforcements and new connections on the overhead lines
  • electrical plant fitting – you will be based at a plant and your job will involve the construction and maintenance of electrical fittings, as well as fault rectification.

What skills, experience and qualifications do you need?

You don’t need any experience to apply for this apprenticeship. We are looking for keen would-be engineers who are new to the power distribution industry and have recently achieved grades A to D in English Language, Maths and Science/Technology at GCSE level or equivalent.

You will also need to demonstrate an interest in electronics, electricity or engineering, the ability to work in a team and enthusiasm to work outdoors.

If you’d like to apply, all you need to do is send your CV to applications@gtisolutions.co.uk by Tuesday, 18th July.
