Autumn 2 Term
English – We have been using ‘The Iron Man’ and ‘The Green Ship’ from The Power of Reading texts for this term. The children have built The Iron Man at the end of the unit during an Art/DT day and it will be on display in the school.
Maths – We have been looking at multiplication and division as well as word problems using Maths No Problem. This term we will have a big focus on multiplication and division as well as fractions.
Science - This term children have been focusing on electricity and they have had an opportunity to build circuits.
PE – Outdoor PE has been taking place on Mondays and Indoor PE takes place on Thursdays. We have been doing gymnastics this term and the children created a sequence using different types of rolls, shapes and jumps.
- White T shirts (should be tucked in)
- Black shorts (Black jogging bottoms for outside PE during Winter. Shorts/Dance leggings for gymnastics and dance)
- Appropriate footwear for outside PE (trainers are recommended- Colour does not matter)
- Hair tied back
- Earrings should be removed
Please ensure your children have their PE kit in school for every lesson.
MFL – Children will carry on learning French this year. We will be using Language Angels to support the children’s learning.
Eastbury Learning Quest – Year 4s continued learning about Ancient Egypt. They learnt about King Tutankhamun’s tomb and used their map skills to locate landmarks on a map. The children have also created amazing silhouettes.
Homework and spellings – Spellings and timetables will be handed out every Friday and will be due the following Wednesday. We will be handing out project based homework tasks.
Library books and changing books – This will happen on a weekly basis. Children are also encouraged to bring in their own reading books.
Music – The children will be learning the trumpet this year. This will be taught by an outside agency.
The Daily Mile – Year 4 will do the daily mile between 08:45 and 09:00 every Friday.
The children are regularly assessed to judge their reading level. Once a week, the class will change their levelled PM book. However, as the children are getting older they’re reading more complex texts so we only want them to change their book if they have finished the book they currently have. Please ensure your child has their reading record with them in school every day. The children take responsibility to fill in their own reading record and we ask that you sign it each time you read with your children.
