Autumn 2 has been an exciting one in year 4. We have been experiencing lots of different activities and working hard. Please read on to find out more.
In Maths we have been learning in a new way, using our workbooks and textbooks from Maths No Problem. We work in partners to discuss the answers and then share them as a class. This half term we have been focussing on addition and subtraction by renaming and regrouping. We have also started learning all about patterns in our different times tables up to 12 x 12.
This half term in Literacy we have been looking at The Iron Man. We read the whole book and wrote many different types of texts such as: letter writing, script writing and a newspaper report. We even built our very own Iron Men!
In PE, we have been doing gymnastics indoors with Sam, Mr Connolly and Miss Nasreen and learning the skills of rugby outside with Mr Swaby.
It is all about the Ancient Egypt in topic this half term. We have been learning about life in Ancient Egypt, which is very different to the life we live today! During our topic lessons, we have found Egypt on a map, investigated the importance of the River Nile and created our own Ancient Egyptian artefacts.
The children are regularly assessed to judge their reading level. Once a week, the class will change their levelled PM book. However, as the children are getting older they’re reading more complex texts so we only want them to change their book if they have finished the book they currently have. Please ensure your child has their reading record with them in school every day. The children take responsibility to fill in their own reading record and we ask that you sign it each time you read with your children.
